... 7 months later
Yes, it has been SEVEN months since I blogged. Soooo, what's happened??? Well, I GOT MARRIED!!! To the most wonderful man on the planet. And in the most wonderful, perfect way.
On July 24, 2009, Michael picked me up to go get our marriage license. We had already gotten the license once, but let it expire when he lost his job at FedEx. So, he picks me up and we go down to the courthouse to get our second license.
After we secure the license Michael says he wants to go look at a new boat launch they've built on the Mississippi. He had been talking about fishing on the Mississippi for awhile, so I thought this was his next step to make that happen. We go down to Martyr's Park (a park dedicated to the volunteers who died caring for the victims of yellow fever) and drive around... no boat launch. Michael thinks he may have missed it, so we drive around again. Now, for those of you not familiar with Memphis, Martyr's Park is VERY small. In fact, most Memphians don't even know it exists. I didn't before this day. So when I say we "drove around", we basically drove in around a parking lot about the size of a Burger King! There was no boat launch, and as I told Michael the third time he "drove around" one was not going to mysteriously jump up from the ground any time soon!
So Michael turned off the car, took my hands in his, and said, "Bev, I'm going to marry you." To which I said, "I know, goofy, that's why we got the license." And he said, "No. I'm going to marry you today!" He had arranged for our student from the class we taught together, Kim Strong, an ordained minister, to meet us and marry us. But she wasn't there. She had been at Michael's house the night before for a party, but Michael didn't want to tip me off that he had arranged this so he didn't mention a word to Kim. Kim thought we had changed our mind and didn't show!!!
Michael called and she rushed down to the park. She was there in 10 minutes and we were married 15 minutes later! It was so special. Kim knew us so well from class, so she chose scripture she knew would speak to us. What a perfect wedding and a perfect day!
